Jars on a Budget

In today’s economy, we need all the breaks we can get, which is why I’ve put together a list of our most budget-friendly jars. Organized by volume, we break the cost down to the jar (including metal lid) and even down to the ounce to help you create your own budget with our products.

In our math-crunching, we realized something quite surprising: products with “lug” style lids make a lot of difference in price! If you’re a small business or home canner and have never used “lug” lids, the best tip I’ve heard about is that you should tighten them down hard before heat processing. Now, let’s begin!

Best Value 4 oz Jar: 4 oz Pimento Jar with 63-2030 Lid

This adorable little jar costs $6.90 per case with each lid costing just $0.21. For comparison’s sake, our most popular 4 oz jar, the A0004-07 Tapered Bottom Jelly Jar with a standard 70-450 lid (not High Heat) costs $1.00.

Best Value 8 oz Jar: A0008-01C 8 oz Smooth Sided Economy Mayo Jar with 58-400 Lid

What this jar lacks in diameter, it makes up for in height (and savings)! At $0.44 per jar with lids priced at $0.32 each, this one is a steal. Our most popular 8 oz jar, the A0008-14C Straight Sided Jelly Jar, costs $0.93 per jar with lid.

Best Value 12 oz Jar: A0012-06W 12 oz Economy Lug Jar with 63-2030 Lid

This one is just a little different from your standard 12 oz canning jar, but certainly worth putting to good use at just $0.56 per jar and lids priced at $0.21 each. The A0012-05C 12 oz Economy Mayo Jar paired with a standard 70-450 lid costs a total of $0.99 each.

Best Value 16 oz Jar: 16 oz Economy Mayo “Lug” Jar with 70-2030 Lid

You may have expected our 16 oz Economy Mayo Jar ($0.99 each with standard 70-450 lid) to make the list as it is admittedly our most popular container, but because the lids are more affordable, its “lug” counterpart stole the show! At $0.57 per jar and $0.32 per lid, this one is a bargain.

Best Value 32 oz Jar: A0032-12W Economy Mayo “Lug” Jar with 70-2030 Lid

Like the 16 oz option, the best value on a 32 oz jar is the “lug” counterpart to our most popular quart jar, the A0032-12C Economy Mayo Jar ($1.21 per jar with standard 70-450 lid). These quart lug jars cost just $0.79 per jar, with lids coming in at $0.32 apiece.

Best Value 64 oz Jar: A0064-00 Half Gallon Round Jar with 83-400 Lid

And finally, here is our most affordable half-gallon jar! Our other half-gallon jar, the A0065-00 Wide Mouth Jar, will run you $1.81 per jar with lid, but the Half Gallon Round Jar with the 83-400 lid will only cost you $1.48 ($0.88 for the jar, $0.60 for the lid). That’s a $3.98 difference per case of 12!
